Northbay Guns and Hoses Hockey Glub will host the second annual public safety ice hockey tournament to benefit Deputy Marcus Hotlon of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Saturday September 7, 2013 at 5:00 pm. at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena.
Dozens of firefighters from Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775 (www.iaff1775.org), raised $50,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during an annual “Fill the Boot” event at four intersections in Marin County April 25 and 28, 2013. Off-duty firefighters asked passing motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to drop donations into a firefighter’s boot to support MDA’s Bay Area children and families. After counting the loose change and bills donated by commuters, Marin Professional Firefighters was thrilled to reach their goal of $50,000 in 2013, setting an all-time record for "Fill the Boot" fundraising in Marin. San Anselmo's "Hub" intersection topped the list, with $16,112.54 donated by motorists. Other totals include: San Rafael, $12,267.83; Mill Valley, $7,751.14; Sausalito, $4616.51; Novato: $4,319.49; Tiburon, $3447.37. The firefighters themselves donated an additional $1500.
Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775 is a labor union that represents more than 400 professional firefighters in Marin County, and each year takes part in the effort to raise funds to support the vital health care services MDA provides to Bay Area families affected by muscle disease. Marin firefighters raised $44,500 for MDA in 2012.
Dozens of Firefighters from Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775 (www.iaff1775.org) will generously volunteer their time for the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association “Fill the Boot” event at five intersections in Marin County April 25 and 28, 2013. Off-duty firefighters will ask motorists and pedestrians alike to drop donations into a firefighter’s boot to support MDA’s Bay Area children and families Thursday, April 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (and in Sausalito and Tiburon Sunday, April 28).
A Santa Cruz Fire Department ladder truck, an engine and a battalion chief all responded to the call for help when detectives Sgt. Loran "Butch" Baker and Elizabeth Butler were shot. Firefighters even shielded innocent bystanders from bullets.
