Off -Duty Local 1775 Member Saves Boaters in Dramatic Rescue

An off-duty Marin County firefighter rescued two crab fishermen whose foundering vessel was headed for the rocks at Rodeo Beach Sunday.

Colleagues hailed firefighter Rick Racich as a hero following the dramatic rescue in angry seas.

Racich, taking advantage of storm-whipped waves on a day off, was at the beach to surf about 9 a.m. when he spotted a man and woman in distress aboard a small craft buffeted by stiff wind and pounded by waves.

These candidates were selected based on their record on firefighter issues and their commitment to public safety. CPF stands up for candidates who have a proven history for standing up for firefighters, regardless of party affiliation.

Marin Professional Firefighters Donates $20,000 to "Jerry's Kids" During MDA Telethon

KTVU news anchor Heather Holmes, Marin County Shop Steward Breanna Buchannan and L-1775 President Bob Briare at the September 6, 2010 MDA Telethon in Oakland. The Marin Professional Firefighters presented a check just under $20,000 on the air during the telethon.  The donation was made from funds collected during the 2010 Marin "Fill the Boot" campaign.  Thank you to all of the Marin residents and visitors who donated to help Jerry's Kids and search for a cure for Muscular Dystrophy.   www.mda.org
