Marin Firefighters Will "Fill The Boot" to Support MDA April 23rd and 26th, 2015

Marin Professional Firefighters and MDA Rally Behind 60+ Year Tradition, Fill the Boot for Local MDA Families

Marin County, CA, April 23rd and 26th, 2015 — Members of the Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775, along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, will kick off the fire fighters' annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign to help save and improve the lives of people fighting muscle disease in the Marin County area. Muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other related life-threatening diseases take away people’s ability to walk, move, smile, talk and even breathe. More than 30 members of Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775, will fan out across the county with boots in hand for this year’s drive on April 23rd from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM at 3rd Street and Grand in San Rafael, at The Hub in San Anselmo, and at Vintage Oaks in Novato. On April 26th, they will be in Sausalito and Tiburon for the Opening Day on the Bay from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

“For more than six decades fire fighters have stood on the front lines for MDA, striving to make a difference in the lives of those affected by muscle disease,” said MDA Fundraising Coordinator, Sara Boring. “Fire fighters in the Marin County area do more for MDA and the families we serve than any other group, dedicating countless hours of their time every year participating in Fill the Boot drives and at MDA Summer Camp. We're grateful for the support of these inspiring, selfless individuals who have made a profound impact on our families’ health, wellbeing and quality of life, and we're excited to make this year’s Marin Professional Firefighters Fill the Boot campaign the most successful yet.”

Marin Firefighters Wear Pink to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Marin Firefighters in Pink
breast cancer info

For the week of 10/13-10/18 all Professional Firefighters in Marin will wear pink uniforms in support of breast cancer awareness and the IAFF's "Passionately Pink for the Cure" program.

Across the United States and Canada, IAFF members will be wearing pink this October — just one of the many ways to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fire fighters get involved for many reasons, and often it’s because they have been personally affected by the disease. Fire fighters exposed to carcinogens and other chemicals while on the job are disproportionately diagnosed with breast cancer — just one of many cancers linked to the work fire fighters do.
